Dua Lipa guest-hosted a distant edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (August 10). While she prepares to release Club Future Nostalgia: The Remix Album.
“Hello, and welcome to a very weird episode of MTV Cribs”. Dua Lipa said at the start of her guest-hosting slot on the tv show!
The British pop star delivered a monologue in which she confirmed that yes. Dua Lipa is her real name. And that Kimmel tricked her into this gig after she “pranked” him with her song “Electricity.”
“Jimmy tricked me into hosting his show from a creepy, empty house,” Lipa said. “Good one, Jim.”
the “new rules” singer, 24, did virtual interviews with older people to see how much they knew about her.
“A lot of my fans are young, but I’m always trying to reach a wider audience, so I decided to reach out to some seniors,” she explained in her monologue. “These are real people I interviewed over the internet. I told them I was conducting a survey about music, but didn’t tell him who I was.”
After the 24-year-old English pop star began the segment with that funny monologue, Lipa kicked off the series of interviews by asking, “Do you know who Dua Lipa is?”
Some of the replies included, “Who?” “Is that a person?” and “Dua Mita?”
And another man answered, “The Doobie Brothers?” (referencing the 1970s rock band).
The singer then started to play her hit tune “Break My Heart” and asked how they feel about the song.
“Love it, love it, love it!,” one woman said. “That’s a good one, I’m writing it down.”
When asked if she, Dua Lipa, might do well with her music, one senior answered: “I don’t know, she might do well on TikTok.”
Lipa tried cluing the seniors in on her true identity by showing them a photo of the song’s artist (herself).
“That’s terrible,” one woman said, referring to Lipa’s crop top in the photo. “If I had a daughter, I wouldn’t want her to go out in that.”
another commented: “It looks like she’s trying too hard.”
When she finally broke the news about who she really is, one woman, who had already criticized her outfit for being “terrible” and improper in a photo, answered, “Oh swell. I really got myself in it this time, didn’t I!”
Another said, “Oh, are you really? I’m going to run out and buy a CD!”
The last man in the clip simply laughed hysterically.
Later in the episode, Lipa interviewed Gwen Stefani who called the singer “brave” for completing the antics. The No Doubt singer is featured on a remix of one of Lipa’s tracks, “Physical,” the video for which drops Aug. 28.
