Hugh Jackman‘s wife shut down rumors her husband is gay
Deborra Lee Furness once again addressed rumors about her husband’s sexuality. The actress appeared on the ABC show Anh’s Brush With Fame this week, where she opened up about comments she is “sick” of getting about her marriage to The Greatest Showman star, Hugh Jackman.
“He’s been gay so many years,” Furness jokes.
“I was gay, too, you know when I did [The 1988 Australian film] “Shame”? I was gay. They were shocked when I got married.”
The actress continued: “I hope people don’t buy these magazines and realize it’s all made up,”
When she was asked if the speculation was annoying, Furness simply replied, “It’s just wrong, It’s like someone saying to Elton John, ‘He’s straight.’ I’m sure he’d be pissed.”
When she was asked if she ever got sick of people telling her that she’s “lucky to be married to Hugh,” Furness laughed and responded, “People don’t realize it’s actually rude to say that.”
Jackman, who has married to Furness for 24 years now. Recently opened up about his marriage, saying to People that they regularly “reset” their relationship. The Wolverine star, 51, explained: “We’re always learning and humans change so you have to, even though we’ve been together 25 years, you gotta reset all the time.”
Hugh continued: “I’m always reeling in how funny she is and how amazing she is and how smart she is. The longer it goes on the better it gets.”
Jackman, 51, and Furness, 64, first met on the set of Correlli, which was Jackman’s “first job out of drama school.” He recalled the moment on The Jess Cagle Interview, explaining that he eventually realised he had “a crush on my leading lady” which led him to avoid Furness initially, but then later confess that he had feelings for her when she confronted him.
“She goes, ‘Oh? Because I’ve got a crush on you too.’ I never in a million years thought she reciprocated,” he said.
