The Australian actress Margot Robbie is set to play the lead role in Disney’s female-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Margot Robbie, the star of Suicide Squad and I, Tonya, is to head a female-driven Pirates movie which is in the early stages of development.
The film will be separate from the already announced reboot of the adventure franchise from Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott. And this film will be the seventh Pirates film in total.
No plot details were available but the story is being written by Christina Hodson. And it is reported that the film will be unrelated to the previous Pirates films. With an original story and entirely new cast and characters.
The Hollywood Reporter declared the movie was a separate project from a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie that was announced as in development last year,
The film is in the early development stage. So it will likely be a long time before it is ready for release. But that’s not stopping fans from dreaming up their ideal Pirates of the Caribbean roster. Twitter is already abuzz with ideas for the new movie. Tossing the names of different actors into the ring for consideration.
The five films which have in the franchise -which started with 2003’s The Curse of the Black Pearl – have made more than £3.6 billion at the global box office. Making it one of the most lucrative film series of all time.
However the most recent entry – 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. Suffered the second lowest box office returns of the franchise’s history ($795 million, unadjusted worldwide). And so Disney has been keen to find ways to inject new life into the series.
