Naya Rivera. Best known for playing a gay cheerleader on the hit TV musical comedy “Glee.” was found dead Monday in a Southern California lake. She was 33.
After a long search Naya Rivera ’s body was discovered five days after she disappeared on Lake Piru after. She went missing during a boating trip with her son, authorities said.
Rivera was reported missing on July 8 after a boat she rented with her four-year-old son was found drifting on Lake Piru. Rivera’s son, Josey Dorsey, was found asleep on the boat and safe. He was wearing a life vest; an adult life vest was also found on the boat, but there was no sign of Rivera herself.
She used the last of her strength to save her 4-year-old son before she died. Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said Monday.
He said: “She ‘Naya’ mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat. But not enough to save herself.”
After divers found her body on Monday, prompting an outpouring of love and sympathy from her co-stars.
Latin urban singer Becky G. tweeted: “Beautiful Naya Rivera, Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with your loved ones. You will be missed & never forgotten.”
Canals, the co-creator of FX’s “Pose,” who is also a Black Puerto Rican, tweeted: ”I’ll never be able to articulate the importance of seeing Naya, a Black Puerto Rican, portraying a queer Afro-Latina on prime-time TV ,I’m heartbroken over all the stories that will remain untold.”

Representatives for Fox. Which aired Glee, said in a statement after her death.“Naya Rivera was a fierce talent with so much more to do and this is such a terrible tragedy, we’re always grateful for the indelible contribution she made to Glee, from the first episode to the last, our hearts are broken and our thoughts go out to Naya’s family, friends and young son.”
Chris Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel in the teen comedy, shared a photo of himself with Rivera on Instagram.

If you were friends with Naya Rivera, you simply can’t, her brilliance and humour were unmatched, her beauty and talent were otherworldly.”he wrote in the caption.

Rivera was also on the CBS sitcom “The Royal Family” and within the comedy film “The Master of Disguise.” More recently. She starred within the “Step Up” television series, Based on the movie franchise.
